HP Photosmart 8250, needs new cartridges
Category: Tech
It has worked with Windows 7 and seems to work with Windows 10. It shows up as a device after you connect it and you can send a document to print. However I have not been able to print anything recently because it gives a message that four (out of six) of the ink cartridges have “expired ink”. This website - http://hpphotosmart8250.blogspot.com/ gives a possible solution to the “expired” problem but I have only been able to get as far as stage 2 myself. Even if this solution works for you, you will still have to buy 3 cartridges to replace those which are actually finished.
The ”expired” cartridges are yellow, dark blue, dark magenta and black.
The cartridges which are finished are yellow, dark blue and dark magenta.
An alternative would be to buy a full set of new cartridges: black, yellow, light blue, dark blue, light magenta, dark magenta. The cost of this varies from about £10 for a set of “compatible” cartridges to £55 for the official HP cartridges on Amazon.co.uk.
With new cartridges, I would expect it to work but I'm doubtful about using it to print photos. I also want to mention a leak of blue ink I noticed inside the rear door which stained about 20 pages. It has happened only once and I cleaned it up. It might have to do with the printer being stored on its side for several months.
I’d be happy to give it to anyone who wants to collect it.
